About Us

Our Story

Chef Judith Folashade DePrad Ojo’s love for Southern and Creole cooking started at the early age of six years old. Judith recalls spending time in the kitchen with her family learning how to cook dishes like Creole Jambalaya, Gumbo, Shrimp Etouffee, and homemade rolls.

Before Judith was born the foundation was set for her by her great-grandmother, Ellen DePrad. When Ellen moved to Chicago she was determined to bring her Creole cooking traditions with her and became a Chef specializing in Creole and French Cooking.

Judith, born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Chicago, IL, ventured to NYC to pursue her dreams of bringing a greater awareness to all people of traditional Southern and Creole dishes. Judith is now following in her great grandmother’s footsteps knowing that she is guiding her all the way.

Ase Café specializes in everything Southern, Creole, and beyond.

Our Customers Say…

“Great homemade Soul Food. I take my Southern cooking serious, and so does Ase Café. Recently, I enjoyed their oxtails with rice and peas and candied yams it was seasoned to perfection and the oxtails were tender, I could ask for no more! Their food is always prepared to perfection, the most delicious homemade food you can find, good food with great prices. Another dish I can testify on is their Gumbo. It is cooked to perfection, with a taste you will always remember, the right spices and ingredients. Wow! Their food knocked my socks off! The food was amazingly delicious!!! Will definitely order again. See for yourself. A completely satisfied customer!”

“I had the pleasure of tasting the Creole Jambalaya from Ase Café created by the talented Chef Judith Ojo. It was delicious; seasoned with just the right amount of spice to wake up your taste buds and provide a little bit of heat. Generously portioned with chunks of Andouille Sausage, Gulf Shrimp, Chicken, and the Holy Trinity of Vegetables mixed in with moist and fluffy rice, it was a dish that I won’t soon forget!

Chef Judith knows how to create a little vacation transporting you to the Bayou with her soulful food. I’m looking forward to tasting more of her culinary creations!”

Let me say that on the first encounter, Ms. Ojo was a special someone. I have been informed that everywhere she allows people to taste her dishes people are delighted. When she agreed to provide food for the Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic, once again she “wow’ed” the crowd and was solicited to accommodate the VIP tent which she did at a moment’s notice. Her culinary skills are impressive as her people skills!
